SAMPLE LETTERS:
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to express my outrage at the cancellation of the television show South of Nowhere.
This show stands alone in its history of tackling big issues, namely sexuality and homophobia in teenagers. There is no other show on television that focuses on this issue in such a supportive way.
The cancellation of South of Nowhere is nothing but a promulgation of the oppression and homophobia felt by millions across the world today. As a show it supported, and had as its fanbase, a myriad of people from all walks of life and all persuasions. It has international support despite the fact it is only screened in the US. Cancelling it due to self-righteous ‘moral’ pressure is nothing but a slap in the face to all those who love and support the show, and those who suffer under discrimination daily.
I urge you, on behalf of fans everywhere, to reconsider your decision and reinstate the most ground-breaking, supportive television show on the networks today.
I am writing to urge the executives of the-N network not to cancel South of Nowhere.
This show is one of the few shows on television that portrays a set of real characters in real situations that ALL teenagers, and anyone who was one, can identify with. The cancellation of this show sends a wrong message to the public and the dedicated fan base.
I urge you to reconsider this decision on behalf of myself and all other South fans out there.
I am writing to urge you not to cancel the show South of Nowhere.
For many people out there, this show creates a lifeline that cannot be replaced. It’s frank portrayal of two girls in love is unique and touches the hearts and minds of a huge group of people.
In these days of increasing homophobia and discrimination, this show and the communities it has fostered may very well be the only source of support and outlet for thousands of people. On top of this, cancelling it will do nothing but send the wrong message about the show and the network it airs on.
I urge you to reconsider your decision and keep South of Nowhere alive. A quick internet search will reveal a huge fan base for the show, and as a flagship for the N network it would be a proud vessel.
Please take the time to think about this and change your actions,
I am writing to you to inform you that I will no longer be supporting your products due to your advertising deal with the television network The N. The show ‘South of Nowhere’ has just been cancelled and one fan community of 20,000+ members feels it is unjust, prejudicial and we are boycotting all companies that pay money to The N for advertising space. We thank you for your previous support but unfortunately we feel something must be done to show that our opinions matter.
We hope you change your mind about supporting this network.
I'm writing to you in the hopes of gaining your support as an online community takes action against a corporate television network. The N network recently cancelled it's best show, South of Nowhere, because they have become increasingly uncomfortable with the homosexual content of the show. This is an outrage to fans who have stood by from day one. This show has changed many lives and offered a spark of hope to thousands of young girls questioning their sexuality. We hope you will support us by spreading the word and helping us in any way you see fit. If you have any help to offer please visit www.savespashley.com, Thanks for your time.
I am a fan of the television show ‘South of Nowhere.’ I am also a member of the Spashley.com forum, a place for people to talk about and share their love of the show. This community has stuck with Spencer and Ashley right from the beginning, and although the other characters are important and loved, a special fondness is felt for the honesty and reality of the relationship between Spencer and Ashley. Due to the obvious lack of support for this story from the network, we feel our only choice left is to stop watching and supporting anything to do with The-N, and all Viacom owned entities until we are offered some kind of compromise.
Sincerely,

Comment by GUEST on 2008-03-03 13:30:49 Okay The L Word...Queer as Folk..... do theese shows ring a bell? Sure right... theese shows mean a lot in the gay community....theese are shows for gay adults...
But what about gay teenagers and gay young adults....or sexually confused kids....what about high school students...who are dealing with they're sexuality...its like 2008 and tv puts a impact on peoples lives espically in the country were living in!!!! Which leads me to think...okay so we have theese shows that were suppose to try and relate to...cool...queer as folk....and The L Word... But theese shows are great yeah but the main characters are gay adults who have jobs and careers and are starting families... If your a kid...espically a gay kid...how ru gonna relate....I mean sure wow the only thing when your a teenager you have in common with theese characters are the simple fact your both gay!
Now here's a show on a totally different level!!! South of Nowhere! A show kids can relate to... a show where you can pick a character and be like wow she's kinda like me...I can Relate to what she's going threw! For the simple fact that i'm going threw it right now!!!
South of Nowhere is a show about high school! About a girl who is at first sexually confused and then later finds out she's in love with her bestfriend....its a classic love story...except its girl meets girl....Its a show that tells you its okay to be different its okay to feel confused.... and who the hell needs to put labels on love....
So!!! We need to keep this show on the air....what else are kids suppose to relate to...I mean they're are a lot of shows out there...that have gay main characters...but none of them are like me...I can't relate to a single character on any of thoose shows for the fact that i'm 18! I haven't expierenced what they have yet....but with South of Nowhere...I most certianly can relate and I don't feel as if i'm going threw it alone...because at least one of the people on the show are going threw the same thing as me..so on a certain extent we are going threw it together....
This show really really needs to be kept on the air!!! Kids need self assurance kids need to know that its okay.....
So everyone please! Go to www.savespashley.com And do somthing to make a difference.....
Save spashley! Spashley= spencer & ashley

Comment by GUEST on 2008-03-03 14:53:01 My letter to Sarah Lindman:
Sarah,
As I am sure you know, your T.V. show produced by Tom Lynch, South of Nowhere, has been an extreme hit. It was mainly aimed for younger kids, but teens seemed to enjoy the cast way better, because of the problems and obstacles.
If you and everyone else at The-N cancel SoN, what are we left with? Degrassi? What does Degrassi teach you? Don't get knocked up or get anorexic? Be wary of weird kids in glasses at school with guns? We all know that Sarah, I assure you! Parents teach us to not have sex until we're married in many religions, they force us to eat our vegetables, and it's common sense that guns are dangerous. But what about the gay people? What about them?
I'm hoping you understand that by all of the letters, phone calls, and e-Mails you've recieved from SoN fans, is that, this show goes a little deeper than mental. It teaches a lesson. Do you know just how many people are affected by the cancellation of this show? This helped troubled kids unknowing of their sexuality get through it. It helped them cope with themselves, learn the best way to let everyone know; Gay is okay.
I could definately understand the cancellation of Degrassi. The show has been around for, what? 6 seasons, already? SoN has been around for 3. And not to mention, they were broken off in episodes. They helped everyone realise that whatever happens, love is love.
I'm going to have to cut this short, but I think I've made my point. Please, for the love of kids who can't find themselves everywhere, don't cancel South of Nowhere.
Thanks.
Danielle

Comment by GUEST on 2008-03-04 08:14:48 Take the time to read this, as I believe that no matter who you are, you'll understand.
South of Nowhere is the only show I've ever watched that I can say honestly changed me. You all know what I'm talking about, whether you are a teenager like myself reading this post or some stuck-up, shy executive snooping inside the diaries of these boards. You've been changed sometime. Whether it was a book, a speech, a show, a movie; a person, even...You've been changed sometime.
Well, guess what? I hadn't.
Not until South came along.
And trust me, this whole teen television thing? Not my thing. I'm 14 years old and I've planned on being a psychiatrist forever; always felt different from people although I tend to blend quite well with the more popular kids. I've never come across a show before that helped me discover who I was. Ever. It's always been entertainment until I saw South of Nowhere.
Picture this. Pretty girl, knows what she wants out of life. Intelligent. Caring...
Homophobic, extremely unhappy. You know why? She's gay. She just doesn't know it.
That wasn't just me back then. It was a thousand of us. A million of us. And maybe we weren't all pretty or afraid of being gay completely or extremely unhappy before, but even the straight ones here have felt uncomfortable sometime...Have lost someone, metaphorically or literally, to drugs or other issues. We've all been through the things depicted in South of Nowhere, and I can't tell you how many teenage lesbian relationship stories I've heard - true life ones - that were parallel to Spashley.
Spencer and Ashley are not just characters concocted by an old, money-grubbing man. They are us.
We have all been a Spencer before - or known one - someone questioning their sexuality, scared and confused; angry and misunderstood...Sharing a secret from the world that starts off tiny; the glance you snuck at that girl's backside at the beach, the thoughts that crept into your head...But it gets so, so much bigger. Secret glances turn into mutual stares that family members notice. Thoughts turn into actions. Actions change who we are, and finally, we all have to fess up sometime...whether it means saying "I like girls," or "I like boys" or "I wasn't born the right gender," whatever it may be. We all have to let it out.
Spencer showed us how.
We've all worn our hearts on our sleeves and had them sold for half price. We've all cared about someone only for them to leave eventually...And we need to see someone like Spencer, who instead of crumbling down, got up on her own two feet and lived like the fallen angel she was.
We'd all like to be angels, I think.
But we've all been Ashleys as well, angry with ourselves and the world, building walls painted and tainted in beautiful graffiti - art, whatever - to entice others and pull them in only to be pushed out sometime. We've all felt like being Ashleys and some of us have turned into one. And it helps so much to see someone like me on that screen, accidentally hurting others, crying out for help...And finally breaking down. Finally letting someone in those walls for good.
Spencer and Ashley are the meeting of those two sides. The accepting, caring side, with the rebellious, angry side. The strong and the weak. The forgiving and the grudge-holding. They are raw, and human, and they are us.
And they are every relationship we've ever been in, in one way or another, especially our first loves.
So don't you DARE take me away from me.
South can't end after 3B because our lives don't end after 3B. And I know you could say that about any season that it would end, yes, but we would never be satisfied until we saw all 5 seasons Lynch said he had planned out, because we know that nothing else is the ending that everyone rooting for us originally intended. We're not going to be happy with anything but the truth, or anything but what we know was [i:ff
Comment by GUEST on 2008-03-06 19:00:52 NO WAY! THEY CANT DO THIS....THIS IS THE MOST REALISTIC SHOW IVE SEEN IN A LONG TIME. I CAN TOTALLY RELATE TO THIS SHOW. ITS LIKE SOMEONE CAUGHT MY LIFE ON TAPE!....THE GIRLS ARE SO HOTT I HATE TO SEE THEM GO!
Comment by GUEST on 2008-03-07 15:04:07 Dear Sarah,
As you read this message I'm sure that you will sigh and complain. "Oh another crazy SoN fan." I'm not just a fan of the television show, but it has helped me realize that people can find love in anyone. Whether it's a woman or a man. I'm sure that if you have been love at any point in your life, you would know that it is amazing. This show shows gay or lesbian people that it's okay to be who they are and that they shouldn't be criticized for it. When people watch this show they feel not only entertained, but safe.
This show is not just entertaining but it educates the ignorant people on gay couples. The show cannot be cancelled just because (and what I'm sure of is religious groups) people don't want this kind of behavior being aired on television. This show brings people together. It can't be cancelled because of what say. I'm sure there are many adoring fans out there that will be devastated after the final airing. And I'm also sure that there are more people that this show had educated and helped personally than there are people who oppose the show.
So please find it in your heart to continue spreading the joy SoN brings to people.
Comment by GUEST on 2008-03-07 15:58:12 Hi I´m from Guatemala city and if you cancel this show I´m gonna be so dissapointed because in a country like this you can´t be who you really are and having shows like this teachs you that it´s not so bad loving anyone because in the end it´s just love, and I think world needs love, a lot of love so please give people like me the chance to watch in t.v. some of our experiences, our feelings, our emotions I know they are just acting , but it happens in real life believe me, so please don´t take this hope away from us.
Comment by karen9103 on 2008-03-20 12:50:58 me parece inaceptabl que hagan eso.
Gracias!!

Comment by Spashleyislove93 on 2008-06-14 23:21:49 There are so many television shows out there for gay adults, but what about the gay young adults, or the sexually confused young adults?????
South of Nowhere is an inspiration to thousands all over the world, and if The N honestly wants to take away one of the best things that has happen to the gay young adults, that shows that they don't give a damn about anyone! this is my opinion so don't take it the wrong way but i think that it's so freaking wrong that The N finally gave us (gay young adults) something that we could relate to and now they are trying to take it away. I don't know about anyone else but this show has changed my life and has made coming out to my parents so much easier, and i personally want to thank Tom Lynch for creating the show, he has done an amazing job relating to teens everywhere and I'm sure that if the show is canceled on The N, then he will do everything in his power to get it back up and running on another channel, well at least i hope so.
SAVE SPASHLEY!!!!!!!

Comment by GUEST on 2008-04-02 06:42:24 Well for starters this is one of the best shows that has ever came on the n and if i gets cancelled i have no reason to watch it any more. It can not be cancelled i live to watch this show. It has helped me in more ways than one. It helped me realize that being gay is ok or in my case bi but either way it is just all love. Save SON!!!!!
Comment by GUEST on 2008-06-23 01:46:59 Dear Sarah, I didn't totaly understand my sexuality until I seen the show South of Nowhere. I believe, in all due respect, that canceling the show will be the wrong thing to do, only because those who are confused, what to know that their not the only ones and because many of young teenagers who are gay, bisexual, or even lesbian, like me, because we are treated like crap, it would be nice to know that it's not just us that are bullied or different. It's not only helpful in the gay community, but it's also helpful in the sexual nature like abstience, because the show has a young high school student who ends up getting pregnant and she ends up regretting it, so if people think that you guys should cancel the show due to the fact that the show has two young high school female students that happened to be gay then maybe it's time that you announce that the shows not only for or towards the gay community, but the show also talks about topics like: Abstience, Orientation, Peer Pressure, basicly everything that has or is happenning in today's world or society. And trust me these types of shows make a BIG difference in the population of hate crimes. It's been proven that when people watch these types of shows, especially like South Of Nowhere, hate crimes and suicide ratings or whatever you call them, their have been a decrease in those topics such as hate crimes and suicide. Besides if you agree then please save South Of Nowhere. We all would APPRECIATE if you air it again and make new episodes. Please. Sincerely, Cheyenne Watson, from Twentynine Palms,California

Comment by GUEST on 2008-09-12 23:29:57 The South of Nowhere show is obviously of some i,portance to us. So don't be afraid to take a chance in what you believe in. Go ahead and let them know what you think. No body is going to think your a freak. So go on while you still can and fight for Spashley. Trust me if you do It makes a huge difference. One person at a time. To make up a community, one that actually means something. I promise you that you will get some happiness out of it. If not well... you're not human. No I'm just yaanking your chain, but seriously go out there and make a difference. Remember, you can say something and kinda take it back, but when you write it down, it's on there forever in the universe, lost up in there in the cyber world. The words you write down will live longer than you. Because you can never have not written it down Even if it never made it to its destination. It's there and it wil always be there. Thank you guys.

Comment by GUEST on 2008-10-18 02:10:41 To the Family of the-N Network;
The South of Nowhere is truly an amazing show. I have been an avid fan of the Degrassi both old and new but it did not affect as much as SoN did.
I am simply urging you not to cancel the South of Nowhere show. I am quite sure that this show have made such a great impact in so many viewers both young and old. Whether a person who is dealing in finding their own identity or a parent/s who are trying to succumb to the reality of their sons' or daughters' true self identity. Such realism of the show truly touch my inner soul. And how is that? you might ask...
Simple... the story line and characters of the show completely "screams out" my life. The way it started until now, I feel like I am re-living my life all over again. The discovery and exploration of feeling deep emotions for another girl, the family battles (her mothers' acceptance), the high school experience (going to the prom with my girlfriend), and the struggle with myself and our relationship. Each episodes that I have watched is the exact way it had happened in my life (I am not joking nor kidding you!). The most memorable episode is when Paula caught Ashley and Spencer in her bedroom. It happened the same way with me.
I am not going to tell you my whole life story but it did start the same way. I just moved to a new town when I was about 15/16 and I met, my now, on and off, girlfriend. We started out as friends until one thing led to another. Her mother had a problem with me hanging out with her. It was a struggle. I did not know how to deal with it all. I am 32 now and confident as to who I am. I wish that there was show like this, back then, that i could have relate to or could have help me deal with these situations.
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL THIS SHOW. There may be a boy or a girl out there that needs this type of support to get through a critical part of their life. This is not only for entertainment but also as guide for parents and kids, young and old, gay or not.
PLEASE SAVE SPLASHLEY!... PLEASE SAVE SPLASHLEY!... Please RECONSIDER and DO NOT take this show off that air... I and all fans would greatly appreciate it.
If you have any questions, comments or you don't believe my story you can email me at
Thank you very much for listening and hope that you have heard me loud and clear.
Sincerely, Abie, from New Jersey
Comment by GUEST on 2008-09-03 09:26:11 If you want to write a good letter to them, just expressing your anger won't do anything. You have to show interest in the show and then tell them about how canceling the show will negatively effect the network. Like how, most of the viewers aren't going to watch another show on the network so they will lose many viewers, stuff like that.
It works.
