http://redbandentertainment.com/The_L_Word/SAVE_SPASHLEY_And_their_raspy_voices.1yf9pq.d After I discovered The L Word I clearly needed to see some more lesbian coupling on TV with chemistry as good as what Laurel Holloman (Tina Kennard) and Jennifer Beals (Bette Porter) portray.
And then I found these two: Write Comment (9 comments) |

Chicago-based publication Windy City Times showed us some love in its Entertainment News round up today: “A Web site is campaigning to keep The N's groundbreaking youth-oriented show created by Tom Lynch, South of Nowhere, on the air. In February, The N announced the cancellation of South of Nowhere after the completion of the third season. A Web site, www.savespashley.com , strives to garner support for the show. The show has been praised for its portrayal of a lesbian teen couple named “Spashley” by fans.” Credit to the Windy City Times Write Comment (0 comments) |

http://dorothysurrenders.blogspot.com/index.html Great news for the SaveSpashley efforts! More love has been thrown our way. Dorothy Snarker, known for her stellar blog work on AfterEllen.com has shared her personal thoughts on the cancellation of South of Nowhere. Dorothy as her very own blog titled Dorothy Surrenders and has pegged it a gay gals guide to pop culture. Check out the blog below or click above to see more, including some great spashley photos and a video! South for Spashley If “South of Nowhere” had existed while I was in junior high or high school, my how things would have been different. As is, the first show I saw about teenagers that dealt with gay issues was “My So-Called Life,” which started while I was in college. But a show with a lesbian teen couple that involved actual sexual tension and physical affection (even if we may grumble that it is too limited) was and continues to be a rarity. So I was saddened to hear late last month that the series is ending its run at the end of its third season this spring. The eight-episode second half to the season, which starts April 11, will be it’s last. Did I like everything (ugh, Glen, seriously ugh) about the show? Clearly, no. Did I sometimes fast-forward to the Spashley parts? Admittedly, yes. But regardless of its shortcomings, what the show helped do was normalize gay relationships. Gay teen couples flirt and fight and fawn over each other, just like straight teen couples. Gay teen couples face the same joys and pains, insecurities and desires, just like straight teen couples. And, most importantly, gay teen couples exist in practically every high school and deserve to be respected in the hallways and classrooms of America (and, of course, beyond). We’re here, we’re queer, can we copy your trig notes? So, I’ll tune in to catch the final eight. And I’ll mourn the loss of the show even though it was so far out of my age demographic it bordered on embarrassing. And, heck, I’ll even sign a petition and send blog love to those troopers at the Save Spashley campaign. Hey, if peanuts worked for “ Jericho ” fans, maybe compasses can work for SoN fans. Though, if it were up to me, I’d send trench coats. Lots and lots of trench coats. Yeah. I am totally going to miss this show. Posted by Dorothy Snarker at 1:05 AM Write Comment (1 comments) |

http://glaadblog.blogspot.com/2008/03/only-four-hours-of-splashley-remain.html Here is what Sarah Holbert blogged about the cancellation: Only Four Hours of Spashley Remain! Confession time: I am a straight 30-year-old woman, and the sapphic teen soap South of Nowhere is one of my all-time favorite shows. When The N is running new episodes, I am running to my TV every Friday to check in with Spencer and Ashley and the latest trials and tribulations of their rocky romance.
That's why it saddens me to learn that the series has not been renewed for a fourth season.
South of Nowhere was a breakout hit for The N when it debuted in 2005, consistently boasting ratings nearly equal to the network's juggernaut Degrassi: The Next Generation. The drama's first two seasons were nominated for GLAAD Media Awards for Outstanding Television Drama, which is remarkable, as the "little drama that could" was battling for attention with the likes of ABC's Brothers & Sisters and Showtime's The L Word.
Though our beloved Splashley will sorely be missed, lucky for us, The N will be wrapping up their story in the series' eight final episodes, slated to air April 11, 2008.
Not good enough for you? Let your fingers do the talking and join the folks over at SaveSplashley.com and let your voice be heard! Write Comment (1 comments) |

http://ia341014.us.archive.org/2/items/SouthCastOffseasonPodcast_1/ OffseasonPodcast1.mp3 Offseason Podcast 1! Hello again friends and fellow Southies. This podcast comes as a bit of a bittersweet update. By now I'm sure you've all heard the rumors that South of Nowhere has been cancelled. As far as we know this information is 99% accurate, but I've been told we will have to wait and see until Friday (tomorrow) for a definite answer. I don't know if that answer is going to come by way of promo, N'Sider podcast, or official announcement...but I'm holding onto that 1% of hope.
We here at SouthCast got together and recorded before these rumors started flying about, so this particular podcast was recorded in a sort of "ignorance is bliss" zone. We had no idea the drama that would soon be unfolding in the next few days. But I will point to Nostradamus Tara who very creepily predicted something...but I will say no more so I don't jinx anything.
Just like all of you...we were shocked, saddened, and upset at the news. I was the first to find out and then contacted Alyssa and Tara who were just at a complete loss for words. To say we were shocked would be an understatement. None of us could believe it. I still can't believe it and I probably won't until we're given some sort of confirmation from The N.
But hopefully in this time of disappointment and sadness we can look to the good times we've shared and great things that this little show has brought us. It's helped some understand their sexuality, helped others understand their friend's/parent's/relative's sexuality, and has brought people from all over the world together simply in the name of love. I think the term "Spashley" has surpassed a simple name merge and now become a symbol for love - no matter the gender, race, or religion. It has shown people that love, no matter what, is a beautiful thing that should be celebrated.
So with that being said - Save Spashley! Long live Spashley! And every other kind of chant we can scream out to the world...and maybe in the future people will understand how truly revolutionary Spashley was.

okay... I just tried to write you a message and my computer crashed. So if this is a repeat, I apologize! What I wanted to say was, I plan to write the execs at the N Network and tell them how wonderful and united all the SON fans are. It's Day 2 of my record being out, with songs from SON on it, and it's #85 on the iTunes pop charts. Hopefully by the end of the week it will climb even further... but this couldn't be happening without the SON fans. This show has GOT TO STAY on the air!!!! We have to make this happen. And thanks again for spreading the good word about my RECORD!!! xoxox Sara Sara's song, 'Never Been Hurt' was featured on South of Nowhere during the Spencer treanchoat scene of 'Gay Pride'. Another one of Sara's songs, 'Dirty Mind', will be featured in 3B as plot point of one of the main characters. Check out her songs on her myspace: http://www.myspace.com/saramelson And go buy her album off of iTunes. Show her some love. Write Comment (1 comments) |

http://yourdailylesbianmoment.blogspot.com/2008/02/south-of-nowhere-cancelled-are-rumors.html I don't normally post rumors and speculation (except those involving me and Mcphee doin' it the back of her limo after each new episode of American Idol. It's tradition.), but there's a HUGE buzz happening right now and I thought you guys would want to be aware if you weren't already. There are strong rumors circulating that when South Of Nowhere has it's next new episodes starting in April, they will be the series' last.
As you would imagine, the lesbians are in an uproar over the whole thing. There's supposed to be an official announcement about it on Friday, but I hope it really is just a nasty rumor started by someone on Degrassi or something;-)
To read ALL about it and join the big army of pissed of dykes (who might be rebels without a cause), go to www.savespashley.com. I want the show to be on long enough for Ashley to get Spencer pregnant, so let's rise up...or somethin.
